Dear Cleveland Chamber Music Society Friends,

Looking back on my 35 years in the CCMS, I marvel at the consistently high quality of performances we sponsor and the many changes in our Society, in the local and international chamber music scene, and in the world of music generally. Our 59th season reflects all of these phenomena. There could be no greater tribute to the past than our opening concert by the legendary Guarneri String Quartet, which has often graced our series and is making its "final tour" this year. While popular and rock performers repeatedly offer their "last appearances ever," this one's for real.

At the other end of the musical spectrum is eighth blackbird, the innovative, Grammy Award-winning ensemble that has earned rave reviews worldwide. We also welcome back the beloved Takács Quartet, this time with a Hungarian vocalist and folk-music ensemble. Other outstanding groups include the Tokyo String Quartet, the Jerusalem Quartet, and the Cuarteto Casals, as well as the much-anticipated return of cellist Carter Brey with pianist Christopher O'Riley. Subscribe now to the entire series; put it off and you'll somehow miss out.

We continue our new Young Musicians' Showcase highlighting a new chamber ensemble. In recent years, CIM's Vesuvius Quartet and the 2007 Fischoff Competition's Grand Prize-winning Prima Trio have given us extraordinary concerts. We anticipate the same in January with the 2008 Fischoff winner, The N-E-W Trio from Juilliard. By including this showcase at no additional charge in our series subscription, we hope to attract the appreciative audience these talented young performers deserve. Note also two more outreach ventures which CCMS promotes as part of our mission: popular Master Classes by visiting ensembles (this season, the Guarneri and Tokyo String Quartets) and our innovative school outreach program, a collaboration with CIM that had an extraordinary initial season in 2007-2008 at four local elementary schools. I encourage you to become members of the CCMS to help us support these exciting initiatives and to join me with a full subscription of superlative chamber music.

Sincerely,
